Klout-Twitter Analytics

There is so much talk in social media about measuring your influence online.  How can it be measured and should it be??  The guys over at Klout are in their beta testing of a tool that is suppose to measure your twitter influence and make it more effective.  I thought I would take a look at it and see what it had to offer.

First of all the site is super easy to use.  Initially you have a few options: enter a username, topics, and twitter lists.  Of course I put in my name to see the results and here is what I got.

Second, I searched the topic "social media" of course I found great names like:@chrisbrogan, @SharonHayes, @MackCollier, @ShellyKramer and many more.  I love that it does allow us to listen to  those who are talking about topics we want to tune directly into.  Great feature!

Last, it allows you search a Twitter list(unless it is private) to see those with the highest "klout" within the list.  Interesting to see the grade given but certainly do not think social media can be completely measured.  I think there are parts that can show numbers but true influence in my opinion is hard to determined.  Social media is more about the conversations and engagement than it is the campaign or marketing strategy.

So what is your Klout grade and do you think it is a true depiction of your influence?

6 Ways To Empower Other Women Online

Empowering Women
I have been thinking a lot lately on how lucky I am to have a group of women who are so supportive.  Most of us blog daily(it's okay Fiona and Kelly we still love your blogs) and have a show of some sort once a week on MomTv or BTR.  We are a group of really diverse women who have all had different walks of life for sure.  We have the knitter, the techgoddess, the sewer, the long-winded vlogger, total wellness guru, the pregnant one, and attorney straight-A woman.  It is amazing though, no matter what project we are working on as women we band together and help each other grow.  It's powerful.  I do think though that not everyone is being a part of this ever-growing supportive community.  I stoppped to ask my Twitter friends how they  empower other women.  Here are just a few of the amazing response I received:

I want to share with you 6 Ways To Empower Other Women Online

  1. Remember that your strengths may not me the same as another women's strength but your value as a woman is the same.
  2. If you see someone who has an opinion you agree with, uplift her by supporting her thoughts.  If you disagree, voice your opinion without attacking.(You know the whole If you haven't anything nice to say, then don't say anything at all or Silence is golden also applies)
  3. Find a community that is a true support system and be sure to support them in return.
  4. When you see a new flourishing business by a woman, see it as a community building stronger not a competitor stepping into your playing field.
  5. Introduce like-minded people to grow a strong foundation of community.
  6. Do not try to measure someone else's success.  Success in your opinion may be different from someone else's opinion.

What do YOU do to empower other women?

Random faces I am finding in my feed-Twitter's Retweet Feature

Today was the first day I was able to utilize the Retweet feature on Twitter.  Initially, I was really excited FINALLY have a feature that has become such a vital part of engaging through tweets.  Retweeting is one of the best ways to not only promote someone else's thoughts but to introduce new users to your followers.  So why is everyone in a tizzy??

The biggest problem for me is the random faces I am finding in my feed.  When I first saw a retweet from someone I didn't "know" I had to second guess myself, "Did I follow this person and not remember?"  That could not be the case because I go and look at every profile before following.  Choosing our followers is the amazing part of Twitter.  I don't think anyone ever follows the public stream so why would I want my stream to feel that way?  I don't.  Another problem that I am having is not being allowed to append messages.  Most of the time when I retweet someone it's because I agree or have something to add to it.  So why are you not allowing for this Twitter?

The retweet feature is still in beta so hopefully Twitter you hear our concerns and fix these issues.  Here are what others are saying about the new feature:

So what do YOU think about it?

    The Twitter Times

Where do you get your social media news?  Each morning I go and check out my daily spots...Mashable, TechCrunch, PCWorld...and more.  Over this weekend my geek pointed me to a really neat application for news and Twitter.  It's called The Twitter Times and it is perfect for those interested in SM and tech news.  The best part it is personalized just for your feed so you are going to news that is relevant to you.  It searches your followers and some of your followees to find common topics being discussed.  I began using it today...here is my paper for the day.  Check out this video hear more about it:

    Twitter Parties

I saw on Twitter a conversation on Twitter Parties and whether not they were really useful to brands.  I followed the conversation for a bit and then brought the topic up with a few of my Skype friends.  I wanted to know what others thought on the topic: Are Twitter Parties still effective?  Most of the response I got was yes. I agree but think too often people attend just for the prizes awarded.

For those of you who attend these parties, are you attending for the prizes alone?  If so, you are completely missing the point.  It is about networking and generating a conversation based around a specific topic or idea.  This is a great time to talk to those on Twitter who you may not have met yet or have not had the chance to catch up with.  There are always new opportunities spouting out of Twitter parties.  So many people are looking to engage and reach out to brands...this is where they are having conversations with you!  People like Jyl of Mom It Forward and Amy of Resourceful Mom help you to do this almost weekly.  Take advantage of those moments and not the prizes.

Maybe a better approach to these parties would be to award the prizes away from Twitter and back on the blog hosting the party that way the prizes are not tangled in the conversation feed.  Would that make a difference in the amount of participation at the party?  You would still be getting the best of both worlds-prizes and conversation.  Just a thought...what do you think??

    Twitter Lists

I started a Twitter conversation with a few people on Saturday. I asked,"Does anyone NOT like the new Twitter lists feature? Why Not?" This is the response I received:

    1. Denise CrockettFullnest

@KeepItClassyJen I don't understand the new list feature....need to look up a tutorial, but I don't have time for it from TweetDeck in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    2. Carla YoungCarlaYoung

@KeepItClassyJen I haven't really figured out what to do with it...not that I've spent much time at it from TweetDeck in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    3. RachelThatTweetThing

@KeepItClassyJen i don't *not* like it, but I haven't done a thing with it just yet. from web in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    4. Lizz Bhereslizz

@KeepItClassyJen I thought that was the original intent. from web in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    5. Naomi DunfordIttyBiz

@KeepItClassyJen I love #lists but I don't like that when you follow a list, you don't follow the people on it. I don't gets it. from web in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    6. Lizz Bhereslizz

@KeepItClassyJen Meh. I would like it if I followed someone's list, it would import who they follow to my "following" list. from web in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    7. tenakimtenakim

@KeepItClassyJen I like it because it's entertaining me, but I don't like it because my lack of listings is hurting my ego. from web in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    8. BetsyJavaCupcake

@KeepItClassyJen This isn't HS. LOL from Power Twitter in reply to KeepItClassyJen

    9. BetsyJavaCupcake @KeepItClassyJen I don't like that the # of lists you're on is featured by your followers. Like it's a status symbol or something now. from Power Twitter in reply to KeepItClassyJen

So a few people said they think it's a popularity contest and some people do not understand how to use it yet. I created a how-to about the list below but let me tell you what I think about it. I do think this list will begin showing more of the people we influence/reach. I do not think that is a bad thing. I think more than anything else it will show you whether or not you are sending out tweets that reflect your personal brand. If not, then look at your stream and reevaluate it and decide on a new tactic. I also think we will begin to find out people with similar interest to follow. Take it as a positive analysis and not a hit to the ego!
